The German Bismarck-class corvette Gneisenau was on a training cruise in the Alboran Sea. However, a violent storm suddenly forced the ship toward the mole in Malaga port. As a result, the vessel was destroyed upon impact. Despite the tragedy, local residents heroically rushed to assist, cementing this event as an important chapter in the city’s history.
The commemorative trip for the sinking of the Gneisenau is an annual event. For 2025 it takes place on 14th December at midday.
