Caminito del Rey Trip

The Caminito del Rey trip from the Costa del Sol

This guided day excursion is the simplest way to visit the Caminito del Rey from the Costa del Sol. Pick-up takes place by coach at the selected time and point in Malaga or along the coast, before heading inland towards Ardales.

The itinerary includes a short stop in Ardales for breakfast (not included) before continuing to the northern access of the Caminito del Rey, where the guided visit begins. Entrance tickets, transport and the accompaniment of a local guide are included, avoiding the need to organise access independently.

The Caminito del Rey was originally built between 1901 and 1905 as a service walkway for hydroelectric works and was inaugurated in 1925. Today it is a restored footpath that crosses the Gaitanes Gorge and is considered a notable example of early 20th-century engineering.

The guided walk lasts approximately four hours and covers around 4.8 kilometres, starting at the northern access in Ardales and finishing in El Chorro. Along the route, tunnels are crossed, steep sections are descended and elevated walkways fixed to the gorge wall are followed, with views over the Guadalhorce river and the surrounding natural environment.

One of the highlights is the viewpoint with a glass floor and the suspension bridge, which reaches heights of over 100 metres above the bottom of the gorge. The walkways themselves extend for almost three kilometres and are approximately one metre wide.

At the end of the route, at the southern access next to the El Chorro reservoir, helmets are returned and the group boards the coach again for the return to Malaga or the Costa del Sol.
