Experience the Caminito del Rey from the Costa del Sol and Malaga

Take a day trip to the Caminito del Rey from the Costa del Sol and Malaga City. Experience one of the world’s most thrilling trails in a breathtaking natural setting—the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. Considered a marvel of engineering, this 7.7-kilometer route takes you through history with an official guide, reaching heights of 105 meters along narrow footbridges just 1 meter wide.

All you need to know to experience the Caminito del Rey from the Costa del Sol and Malaga City

El Caminito del Rey is famously known as “the most dangerous path in the world.” Located approximately 60 kilometers from Málaga in southern Spain, this guided tour offers a 4-hour adventure along breathtaking walkways attached to the cliffs of the Gaitanes Gorge. Spanning 7.7 kilometers in total, including a dramatic 3-kilometer section on footbridges suspended 105 meters above the ground, this journey is both exhilarating and unforgettable.

Your circular route begins at Hotel La Garganta in El Chorro (Álora). Upon arrival, meet your expert local guide near the hotel reception. Once the group is ready, you’ll take a shuttle bus (included in the price) to the northern access point in Ardales. Along the way, you’ll admire the Guadalhorce River Dam, the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Site, and the El Chorro reservoir.

Before reaching the entrance, your guide will share fascinating stories about King Alfonso XIII, including the legendary King’s Chair, and the history of the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro. You’ll then take a short walk through lush pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation.

At the access point, you’ll receive a safety helmet and important guidelines for navigating the 3-kilometer stretch of pedestrian walkways. Marvel at the awe-inspiring suspension bridge spanning the Gaitanes Gorge before continuing your journey back towards El Chorro.

After the experience, return your helmet and take in the serene surroundings of the El Chorro reservoir. The tour concludes back at Hotel La Garganta, where you can catch a train, enjoy a refreshment at the hotel’s restaurant, or retrieve your parked car. This convenient circular route ensures a seamless and stress-free experience.
