Vía Ferrata at El Chorro

Via Ferrata – Caminito del Rey

This via ferrata activity is the simplest way to experience climbing in the El Chorro area if you choose to make your own way there. The meeting point is next to Hotel La Garganta, where the guide organises the group before the start of the activity.

If you arrive by train, the Cercanías line (C2) connects Malaga with El Chorro station, located around 100 metres from the meeting point. If you prefer to arrive by car, there are parking areas around El Chorro, from where you can easily reach Hotel La Garganta.

All necessary technical equipment and the supervision of a specialised guide are included, avoiding the need to organise the activity on your own.

The via ferrata combines vertical climbing sections with horizontal traverses equipped with iron steps, cables and bridges, allowing safe progression along the rock faces of the El Chorro area.

The activity lasts approximately three to four hours, depending on the pace of the group and conditions. Along the route, various obstacles are overcome, including exposed sections and aerial passages, always secured by a continuous safety line.

At the end of the activity, you return to the starting point, where the service finishes.

* Full technical equipment: climbing harness, safety helmet, energy absorber, certified carabiners and auxiliary rope if required.

* Certified professional guide.

* Activity insurance.

* Photo session during the route.

* Transport to the meeting point (Reception of La Garganta Hotel-Restaurant).

* Food and drinks during the activity.

How to access the Via Ferrata at El Chorro?

If you are staying on the Costa del Sol and feel like doing something different — and yes, a bit “crazy” in a good way — the via ferrata at El Chorro is a straightforward option without overcomplicating things.

The simplest way is to reach the area around Hotel La Garganta, in El Chorro. It is well connected by train (C2 line from Malaga), and the station is about 100 metres from the meeting point, so it is very easy to find. If you are coming by car, you can also park nearby and walk to the meeting point without difficulty.

There is another access option via the Los Albercones car park, but to be clear: it is not the most advisable if you do not know the area or do not have a suitable vehicle. The road is uneven and reaching the route requires navigating less obvious paths.

Arriving via El Chorro is much more direct. You reach the meeting point, the guide organises the group, and from there you access the start of the via ferrata without unnecessary detours.

If you have never done a via ferrata before, this setting is a very good first experience: a balance of activity, safety and scenery that does not disappoint. Afterwards, you can stay for a meal or simply relax in the area before returning to the Costa del Sol.

There is no need to overthink it: you arrive, get equipped and start. The rest is down to the surroundings.
