DAY 1. PLACE OF ORIGIN – LA RIOJA: Departure from your place of origin. Lunch at the client’s own expense. Arrival at the hotel, dinner, and accommodation.
DAY 2. LOGROÑO – LAGUARDIA – D. O RIOJA EL FABULISTA WINE CELLAR: Morning visit to Logroño with an official guide, where the streets and the old town are harmoniously combined with the modern city, ideal to visit on foot, contemplating the Calle Portales, the axis of the old town, the Puente de Piedra, the Paseo de Espolón and the Cathedral de la Redonda. Return to the hotel for lunch.
Afternoon visit to La Guardia, surrounded by its city walls, its gates still have their swing gates. You will visit the church of St. Mary of the Kings and St. John, the Renaissance-style Town Hall, the birthplace of the fable writer Samaniego and the numerous ancestral homes. Next, we will visit the Rioja D.O. Bodega El Fabulista (entrance included), which is buried 7 metres underground beneath a palace, guided tour with wine tasting. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3. BRIONES – VIVANCO BODEGA Y MUSEUM – HARO – SANTO DOMINGO: Morning excursion to the Riojan town of Briones, where you will visit the magnificent Vivanco Museum and Winery, guided tour with tasting (entrance included). Next, the town of Haro, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, where you will visit the streets of the old town as an example of architectural wealth. Return to the hotel for lunch. Afternoon trip to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, an ancient city founded by Saint Domingo himself. He built a road, a bridge and a hospital. The cathedral preserves the tomb of the saint, and the city is surrounded by 14th century walls. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4. NÁJERA – VALVANERA: Morning visit to Nájera, where you will visit the Monastery of Santa María la Real (entrance included), admiring among its wonders the flowery Gothic choir stalls, the Pantheon of Kings, the Chapel of the ‘Vera Cruz’ which houses the tomb of the great poet Garcilaso de la Vega, the Gate of Carlos I, the Gothic Cloister of the Knights. We will continue our journey until we reach the Monastery of Valvanera, which guards the Patron Saint of La Rioja. Return to the hotel for lunch. Free afternoon, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 5. SUSO & YUSO MONASTERIES – CENICERO: Morning visit to the Monasteries of Suso & Yuso (entrance included), in San Millán de la Cogolla. The Monastery of Suso was an ancient Visigothic monastery. We will continue our visit to the Monastery of Yuso (entrance included), considered the ‘Escorial’ of La Rioja, housing one of the most important medieval archives in Spain. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit Cenicero. Legend has it that the name comes from the ashes that shepherds used to leave behind during their winter stay on the banks of the Ebro. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 6. LA RIOJA – PLACE OF ORIGIN: Early morning departure to your place of origin, lunch at your own expense. Arrival, end of the trip.
