DAY 1. PLACE OF ORIGIN – BASQUE COUNTRY: Departure from place of origin. Lunch at client’s own expense. Arrival at hotel, dinner & accommodation.
DAY 2. BILBAO – VITORIA: Morning departure for Bilbao, visit with official guide to visit the main monuments of the city, then we will visit the Guggenheim Museum (tickets not included). Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon departure to Vitoria, visit with official guide, a powerful industrial centre and seat of the Basque Parliament. We will be able to contemplate the Cathedral, the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, the Plaza Mayor. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 3. SAN SEBASTIAN – GETARIA: Morning departure for San Sebastian with an official guide. You will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful bay and beach of La Concha. Highlights include the promenade and harbour, the old town with the church of San Vicente, the Cathedral, the boulevard and the modern Kursaal Conference Centre and Auditorium, popularly known as “Moneo’s cubes”. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, you will visit Getaria, birthplace of the sailor Juan Sebastián Elcano and one of the places where the film ” Eight Basque Surnames” was shot. You will take a tour of the town, famous for its restaurants and “txacoli” wine, which is grown nearby. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 4. ZARAUTZ – DEBA – ZESTOA: Morning departure for Zarautz, this town in Guipuzcoa combines a splendid beach with an interesting historic quarter. You can see the Gothic tower of Luzea, the medieval church of Santa María la Real and the Renaissance-style Narros palace, numerous palatial houses and Portu palace (16th century). Next, you will visit Debas, an important holiday resort. The Church of the Assumption is one of the most culturally interesting places in the town. Gothic in style, it has been declared a National Monument. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit Zestoa, located in the valley of the river Urola, it is known above all for the famous spa waters. In the town centre, the 16th century church and the 17th century Town Hall are of particular interest. On the outskirts are the Gothic palace of Lili and the spa. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 5. HONDARRIBIA -BIARRITZ – SAN JUAN DE LUZ: In the morning departure for a full day excursion to Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a beautiful French-Basque fishing village that was once a base for Basque corsairs. Then on to Biarritz, a beautiful French Basque town that has been a meeting place for European nobility since Napoleon III and his wife bought some dunes facing the sea and built a large palace. With the Avenue de l’Empress to guide you, you can stroll around Biarritz at your leisure. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon visit to Hondarribia, which is separated from the French town of Hendaye by the river Bidasoa. It preserves an interesting old town and near the port is the marina, a fishing quarter with typical houses with colourful balconies. Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
DAY 6. BASQUE COUNTRY – PLACE OF ORIGIN: Early morning departure to your place of origin, lunch at the client’s own expense. Arrival, end of the trip.
