Caminito del Rey from El Chorro

Discover the Caminito del Rey from El Chorro, a breathtaking walkway suspended along the cliffs of the Gaitanes Gorge. Once considered “the most dangerous path in the world,” this 7.7-kilometre route has been restored into a safe yet thrilling adventure, offering unparalleled views and an immersive historical experience.

Your journey begins at Hotel La Garganta in El Chorro (Álora), where you’ll meet your expert local guide near the reception. Once the group is ready, you’ll board a shuttle bus (included in the price) that takes you directly to the northern access point in Ardales. Along the way, admire the spectacular scenery, including the Guadalhorce River Dam, the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Site, and the El Chorro reservoir.

Before reaching the entrance, your guide will share fascinating stories about King Alfonso XIII, including the legendary King’s Chair, as well as the historical significance of the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro. You’ll take a short walk through a beautiful landscape of pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation before reaching the access point.

Equipped with a safety helmet, you’ll embark on the most exhilarating part of the hike—a 3-kilometre section of footbridges clinging to the sheer rock face, at heights of up to 105 metres above the canyon floor. The grand finale is the suspension bridge, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the gorge.

After completing the walk, you’ll return your helmet and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of El Chorro reservoir. Your tour concludes back at Hotel La Garganta, where you can choose to relax at the hotel’s restaurant, catch a train, or retrieve your parked car—making this the most convenient way to experience the Caminito del Rey.
